UV disinfection
Staged UV System Replacement at an Aquatic Centre
A staged UV replacement that reduced disruption, avoided unnecessary pipework changes and improved local support. Existing plant: Dual Evoqua Barrier M UV units. Replacement: Australian-made Aqualec UV system.
Project details are generalised to protect client confidentiality.
Challenge
One of two Evoqua Barrier M units had reached the point where replacement offered better long-term value than further repair. The customer wanted a straightforward upgrade, minimal shutdown time and no unnecessary changes to the existing pipework.
Engineering Approach
Assessed the existing arrangement and selected an Australian-made Aqualec UV system.
Specified a flange-to-flange configuration to suit the existing installation and avoid major pipework changes.
Included local HMI control, a stainless-steel reactor, mechanical cleaning and improved maintenance access.
Coordinated supply, installation and commissioning with local parts and technician support.
Outcome
- The first replacement unit was installed and commissioned.
- The second Barrier M unit remained in service until planned lamp end-of-life, allowing capital spend to be staged.
- The site gained simpler maintenance access and stronger local parts and service support.
