Every ozone installation produces more ozone than the process consumes. Whatever is left in the off-gas from a contact tank, reaction vessel or generator vent has to be removed before that gas reaches the atmosphere or the plantroom. The component that does this work is the ozone destructor, and the working part of a destructor is the catalyst bed inside it. This product is the media that fills that bed.
How it works
The media is a mixed metal oxide catalyst formed into hard pellets. Ozone-bearing gas is drawn through the packed bed, and at the pellet surface the unstable ozone molecule (O₃) is split and recombined into ordinary molecular oxygen (O₂). No reagent is dosed, nothing is scrubbed into a liquid stream, and the outlet gas is simply air with the ozone residual removed. Because the pellets catalyse the reaction rather than react with the ozone, they are not consumed by throughput — activity is lost gradually through moisture, dust, oil mist and process contamination coating the active surface, which is why destruct beds are recharged on condition rather than on a fixed chemical dosing schedule.
Why it is used
Ozone has a low workplace exposure limit and is corrosive to seals, elastomers and electrical assemblies. A destruct bed that has lost activity shows up as rising ozone readings at the vent, alarms on ambient ozone monitors, complaints of a sharp smell around the plantroom, and accelerated wear on downstream ductwork. Recharging the bed with fresh catalyst media restores compliance and protects both the operators and the plant, at a fraction of the cost of replacing the destructor vessel or shutting the ozone stage down.
Compatible replacement catalyst
This is a compatible replacement catalyst intended for destructors that were originally charged with an industrial ozone catalyst of this class — the type commonly referred to on site as Carulite. It is not a Carulite-branded product and is not manufactured by Carulite. Before we quote, we check the destructor make, bed volume and pellet size so the charge you receive suits the vessel you are refilling.
Supplied from Australia, shipped worldwide
The media is held in Australian stock and despatched from Australia in 20kg quantities, Australia-wide and internationally. That matters on ozone plant: destruct media is usually needed at short notice during a shutdown window, and local stock removes the wait associated with overseas manufacturing and consolidation.
